Asheville eats

This past weekend, Josh and I took a trip to Asheville to (belatedly) celebrate our 2 year anniversary! We stayed in an awesome AirBnB in West Asheville and ate sooo much good food. We also went mural/graffiti hunting and found several really intriguing ones, which you can check out here. Overall it was a super chill weekend and it felt so good to unplug and just enjoy time together. Below I’m going to share some foodie highlights with you in case anyone is thinking of venturing to Asheville soon. Enjoy!

Taco Billy. We stopped here on a whim for lunch and it was insanely good. They have super unique tacos and they don’t skimp on the avocado, which I obviously respect. Our favorite thing about this place was their plantain tortillas, and we bought a stack to bring home!

Baba Nahm. This was another spontaneous stop that did not disappoint. Josh got a chicken shawarma pita, I got a mujadara bowl, and we split the “Israeli fries” which were covered in zatar spice and served with a tahini dipping sauce. The fries were actually one of our favorite foods of the trip!

French Broad Chocolate Lounge. No visit to Asheville is complete without a stop at this place. It is chocolate heaven! We tried a dark chocolate truffle and a pistachio one, and the dark won out for me. I also got a lavender truffle from Asheville Chocolate which was delicious. I can’t decide which shop was better because ya girl loves chocolate and both places were top notch!

OWL Bakery. This was about a 5 minute walk from our AirBnB and one morning we strolled down for cold brew and an almond croissant. Their cold brew was honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. The interior of the bakery was so cute and cozy and filled with the smell of baking pastries! We liked it so much that we went back a second time for coffee and a morning bun.

Asheville Bee Charmer. My love for honey runs deep, and this place was wonderful because you could sample as many as you wanted! Josh and I tried a bunch (eucalyptus, lavender, honeysuckle, etc) but eventually settled on this ginger honey. The lady at the store said she uses it in her salmon marinade and I’m pretty excited to try that out.

White Duck Taco Shop. More tacoooos! Yes please. I got two different types- the Bahn Mi and Thai Peanut Chicken- and Josh got the Jerk Chicken. Also their Cheerwine slushy was surprisingly good?! Bonus points for the fact that the restaurant is inside an old shipping container.

Hole. Cute cute cute little place where you can watch (and smell) doughnuts being made! I got the sesame almond, Josh got the bourbon sorghum, and we both got some milk to wash it all down. Josh LOVED these doughnuts, but for some reason I was expecting cake doughnuts so I was just a teensy bit disappointed. I would still highly recommend this place though, because you really can’t beat hot and fresh doughnuts in such a charming atmosphere.
