I grew up in Charlotte, about 20-30 minutes from downtown, and also lived there for a year between undergrad and grad school. Josh and I recently spent a weekend in downtown (uptown?) Charlotte, and it is SO much cooler than I remember! If we didn’t both love our jobs and our friends here in Raleigh, I’m pretty sure we would be moving to Charlotte.
During our trip we stayed at an AirBnB in Skyhouse Apartments, which had a beautiful rooftop view of the city and was a quick walk to tons of shops and restaurants. I love when I can park my car for the weekend and not think about it again! Although Josh and I were only in Charlotte for less than 48 hours, we squeezed in quite a lot. Here are my top 3 favorite places we went to eat/drink:
Coco + The Director. Super cute coffee shop right in the city, which also sells beer/wine and some food. We went on Saturday evening to grab a drink and play a game, and then on Sunday morning I strolled over for one of their fabulous cold brews.
City Smoke. This was a spontaneous dinner spot that ended up being one of our favorite meals ever. I got the rotisserie chicken which came with roasted acorn squash and tomato jam (I KNOW) and balsamic brussels. Josh got the beef brisket sandwich which was also incredible. Definitely recommend this place if you like fancy-ish BBQ!
Clean Juice. Pleaseeee come to Raleigh, Clean Juice! This is an awesome spot if you’re into smoothie bowls. I got a cherry/chocolate bowl and Josh got a coffee/chocolate one, and then we split the avocado toast. We were scootering around South End when we stumbled across this place, and it really hit the spot.
An honorable mention for food/drinks goes to 7th Street Public Market, which has lots of tasty, local places to choose from. Another thing to note is that there are tons of Bird scooters and Lime bikes all over Charlotte, which makes getting around super fun.
We will be back, Queen City!
