This weekend we got to celebrate our sweet Baby K turning 1! I knew that my sister was coming into town, but my mom completely surprised me by coming, too!!! I did not expect it at all and was so shocked and excited. It ended up being such a fun birthday celebration + family reunion with my mom and sister (from Pittsburgh) and my dad and brother (from Charlotte). The best!

Baby K got so many new toys, outfits, and books, and even a sweet little scrapbook that my dad made. Since developmentally he’s only at a ~9 month level he couldn’t eat any birthday cake, but we did give him a spoonful of icing! He was surprisingly underwhelmed by the icing but went nuts for all the balloons. He has come sooo far since we met him in the NICU and I cannot wait to see what the next year of his life brings.

I recently read a beautiful quote from Henri Nouwen about birthdays and wanted to share some of it here:
“… to celebrate a birthday means to say to someone: ‘Thank you for being you.’ Celebrating a birthday is exalting life and being glad for it. On a birthday we do not say: ‘Thanks for what you did, or said, or accomplished.’ No, we say: ‘Thank you for being born and being among us.’”

We love you so so much, Baby K! ❤
