The root of joy

Lately I have been inspired to re-commit to my gratitude practice! It is definitely a “practice” for me as I so easily slip into complaining and taking things for granted. This quote from David Steindl-Rast gave me a much needed reminder about the necessity of gratitude:

“The root of joy is gratefulness… It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.”

In the spirit of actually living this out, here are some things I am thankful for right now, on this overcast and warm morning in June:

-Starting a new book

-My mom sending me a giant bag of Purely Elizabeth granola

-Taking the boys to the pool

-Working PRN

-Mangoes

-Reading to the kids and watching their faces light up

-Double date at Vintage Sofa Bar

-Fresh herbs

-Morning walks with K in the Ergo

-Seeing my grandparents for the first time in a year and a half ❤

-Coming up on FIVE years of marriage with my love!

-Our church community

-The smell of jasmine

-My dad generously babysitting every Wednesday night

-K’s newfound, incessant wave

-Listening to worship music while making dinner

-Green smoothies

-My kind + loving in-laws

-Beef brisket from Honky Tonk Smokehouse

-CJ’s sweet smile

-Watching The Mighty Ducks with Josh

-Seeing the boys eat their first strawberries
