It’s a cool summer morning
Unencumbered by the weight of humidity
And I wait
For a similar lightness
To descend upon me
My boys climb
To the highest slide
Laughing
At the sheer enormity
Of their accomplishment
A cloud of children
Swarm the park
Running, swinging, giggling
And I wait
For the kids to tire, for the weight to lift
The slide twists and turns
My boys descend
Unencumbered by the weight of expectations
And light surrounds them
All the way down
